HB 357 Education Saving Accounts; Rep. Kris Hansen

Click here to track the progress of this bill

This bill allows parents with students who are enrolled or were enrolled the prior year in a public school or who are starting school to choose an Education Saving Account. The parent would inform the resident School District that they are choosing an Education Savings Account.

The Office of Public instruction would make payments to the savings account equal to 65% of the resident District’s annual per pupil spending (varies district to district but approximately $6,500.00). The parent would direct the spending of the funds for education services for their child. Any monies accrued in the account and not spent on k-12 education would be available to the student for higher education expenses until the student turns age 26.
